Welcome, October!

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers".
-Lucy Maud Montgomery

After the devastating week of hurricane, which left so many in awful circumstances, we're grateful to see the sunshine this week. We're just grateful to have missed the flooding and ruin so many experienced in the south, and praying for all those involved.
.
October has welcomed us here with the expected crispness and beautiful blue skies we cherish this time of year. And October marks the beginning of the stunning foliage changes, fall festivals and the season of all things pumpkin! It's a welcomed month, no doubt.
.
Around the farm, we're excited to announce the arrival of two new calves this month! Both Lily and Sage had beautiful, healthy angus calves this past week. Lily had a heifer calf, and while we were thinking of naming her Luna Lovegood, one of our followers sweetly suggested Minerva McGonigal, in light of the recent passing of the beloved actress, Maggie Smith. And I think that's the best fit. So we're excited to have a little Minerva on our farm. Sage's calf is a bull, so we're still up for names for him in the category "trees/shrubs" (Sagebrush is her official name), so leave us your name ideas in the comment section!
.
This week, we're excited to restock our spiced pumpkin gelato, for a Fall Gelato Flavor List including:
-Spiced Pumpkin
-Apple Cheesecake
-Butter Pecan
-Brownie Batter
We're planning one or two more fall flavors coming this month, so stay tuned!
.
We're excited to keep up with local
sourced apples at our farm shoppe and this week, we're fully stocked our stash of LOCALLY MADE FRESH APPLE CIDER! There really is nothing better than the sweet-and-tart apple cider made by our friends at Keller's Greenhouse in Kersey. We'll have half-gallons and pints this week to add the perfect drink (hot or cold) to your October menu!
.
Our farm shoppe is open this Saturday (and every Saturday) 10am until 2pm!

This week's links + finds:
  • I stopped at McKee Antiques, one of my favorite antique stores in Brandy Camp, last week and after sharing some photos, so many of you requested a link! I wanted a side table for our nursery, and found the cutest old wooden one for less than $20. Antiques are always my first choice!
  • The perfect breakfast for the first weekend in October.
  • I loved this read about an Italian Microdairy/Cheese maker. Jesse and I dream of a boost in American Microdairies: just imagine each town having it's own milk supplier, cheesemaker, ice cream maker, and yogurt maker! It's not an impossible feat, and we're excited for its possibility. Small farmers create more unique, higher quality products which benefit the land, the animals, the farmer and the community in so many ways.
  • An American made broom, made the old-fashioned way, yet proven to sweep better than the cheaper versions at big stores. I love finding small businesses like Sunhouse Craft. Yes, you might pay more for the broom. But the quality should last a lifetime: so that saves you in the end and supports an American small business!
  • I'm making fall's first batch of soft pretzels this weekend: if you haven't tried them, you must! You'll be surprised and how easy and seriously delicious the homemade version is!

Have the best first weekend of October! We hope to see you at our farm shoppe this Saturday and every Saturday 10am until 2pm!

xx,

Lisa
