Happy Friday

Something starts to shift mid-February around here. I don't know about you all, but the coziness of the dark, cold winter starts to feel less delightful about this time. And though its one of my prayers each morning to stay content in our Western PA winter, this one is making it tough! Our entire driveway is an ice-skating rink, a daily walk of faith to make it unharmed (I watched Jesse wipe out today!) and a constant battle of salt and rocks and snow and ice on repeat. It seems as though old Phil was right, and we might as well settle in for a few more weeks of the cold and ice. But like I said, I'm starting to feel the shift...
.
Of course we're in the business of creating more frozen things, so I wanted to find a way (if it's possible) to make a cozy version of gelato this week. After the delight of the oatmeal raisin cookie gelato a few weeks ago, I took to my baking book for another real winner. This time, it's Grandma's banana bar. Imagine this: a banana bar loaded with walnuts and topped with a generous portion of cream cheese icing. That's what we did, in gelato form! And it's a good one. We pureed cream cheese and a whole banana our classic gelato base and filled it with pralined walnuts and pieces of scratch-made banana bar. It's a satisfying gelato bursting with banana flavor in the best way. I think you guys are going to love this gelato. And if you're not a big banana fan, we managed to make some more sea salt caramel gelato for you this weekend, too! Plus, we've got a few chocolate pints left, too.
If you're up for braving the cold, we'd love to see you at our little farm shoppe this weekend!
.
Farm shoppe hours:
Saturday 10am - 2pm
Sunday 1pm - 3pm
Links + finds from the week:
- Locals: have you stopped by my friend, Dusti's bakery, Susquehanna Small Batch, in Clearfield? It's a self-serve, 24hr shop filled with scratch-made cookies, pies, cinnamon rolls, breads, jams, fudge and so much more. Take it from me, her cinnamon rolls are awesome.
- The annual Otter Watch is March 1 in Cook Forest- we've done this guided tour of the Clarion River several times (but have yet to see an elusive otter) and look forward to it!
- Have you heard of the Bearded Butchers? I've learned so much about cuts of beef watching them, and I think you'll find them valuable (they teach butchering deer, too).
- These mini animal cookie cutters would be perfect for homemade animal cookies!
- Bolognese sounds perfect for Sunday.
- Who hasn't had their name called over the store's speak system?
Have the best weekend,
Lisa
