April Showers Bring May Flowers
.
Happy Friday! We're in the midst of a spring rain lasting days and flooding the banks of our little creeks. The ground is essentially soup. It's grey and wet everywhere you look, but alas! We trust in the April rains to bring us the green beauty of May. So we're doing our best to stay positive and hopeful!
.
As a Microdairy, calving times are really close to home for us: we only have ten adult cows to calve through the year, so we're excited for each and every one! We strategically breed them to calve at different times, but as we know the spring brings an influx of milk needs, we've already had two new calves born this week and another expected next week! It's all of our favorite time: the watching, the waiting, then the sweet surprise of a new life! If you follow along on Facebook or Instagram, you probably saw the posts about Yosemite's calf, Sequoia, last week: a sweet, petite Jersey heifer calf. And this week: Maple had a cutie little bull Angus cross: we're still counting votes for his name!
.
But we're still keeping busy with the creamery despite the excitement of new calves, and we're so excited to bring you two new gelato flavors this week. First up: a return of a favorite, Maple Sap Season! I'm always so proud of a recipe that allows me to use another local maker's goods, and this one is bursting with fresh local maple syrup. It's also filled with pralined pecans for a sweet, crunch that's so good. Maple Sap Season is our take on a "Maple Walnut", and its real maple flavor can't be beat!
.
And because you guys loved it so much, we're harnessing all the warm weather we can find and bringing back Toasted Coconut! Made with real cream of coconut and shredded, toasted coconut flakes, this one has been a huge hit for a good reason! It's the flavor the tropics and we hope it welcomes some warm temperatures with it.
.
As always, our farm shoppe is open Saturdays 10am until 2pm and filled with local gelato, farm fresh milk and so much more! We love our Saturday farm shoppe guests and can't wait to see you this Saturday at our farm shoppe, just outside of Brockway.

This week's links + finds:
.
- This great group of Brockway residents have officially formed a nonprofit in support of our small town. I'm so proud of them, and so proud to call Brockway our home! You can read the full article in our local paper here.
- I've read the 90's diet culture was detrimental to so many: glad to see Sarah Jessica Parker bringing back real food, with reasonable limits with her own children.
- I made pretzel crusted chicken for dinner and it was delicious. Why didn't I think of this sooner?
- Hands down, the best spring boots for kids. Easy on/off and last through multiple kids!
- A lightheaded reminder: if it's meant for you, it will find a way.
Have the best weekend, friends!
xx,
Lisa
